Julie, Lorne and the rest of the Caorda team were fantastic to deal with, in helping us revamp our Liquor Plus website, initiate a monthly sales flyer and an email campaign. They were open to our ever changing ideas and concepts and they implemented them in a practical sense. Their turn around time to our requests were met with speed, efficiency and full transparency. Liquor Plus is a Vancouver Island owned and operated group of liquor stores that provides an enormous selection. In 2002, the BC government announced that liquor retailing would eventually be phased out as a core service offering, and Liquor Plus entered the market with a few small “beer and wine stores” on Vancouver Island. The company quickly found its niche by providing a high level of service, product knowledge, and a broad and unique selection – all at competitive prices. Fast forward 15+ years, L+ now has eight locations from Victoria to Courtenay and continues to experience substantial growth.

The Challenge

As a Caorda client since 2010, Liquor Plus had previously utilized Caorda’s proprietary website platform, Caorda Content. Although the site was great for its time, websites and user behavior has changed drastically over the past decade, so it was time for a refreshing cold one – uh, we mean website design! The issue was that Liquor Plus had experienced tremendous growth and expansion, yet its digital presence had remained fairly static. With the opportunity to engage more customers and drum up additional business, a new web presence became as critical as the person who’s responsible for the wine at the dinner party.

The Solution

Boy, were we excited to work on this one! We really enjoy collaborating with clients, and helping to take their old site and turn it into something new again. The first decision was to build the new site with an open source website platform rather than sticking with Caorda Content. We went with a premium theme-driven WordPress site for its flexibility and scalability. Liquor Plus can take advantage of future features, while having an easily maintainable platform.

We really did “Discover the Plus” with this project! We started off with requirements to finalize the scope of the project, which had a ‘keep it simple’ mantra. The site design went off without a hitch (or spilled drinks). We had an absolute blast learning about some unique craft beers, the social world of UNTAPPD and the extensiveness of Liquor Plus’ reach across Vancouver Island!
