The Oceanside Hospice Society provides end-of-life care, grief support, services, and equipment for those living with or affected by life-limiting illness. Since 1990, Oceanside Hospice has operated as a non-profit charity driven by volunteers and supported by funding from the Oceanside communities of Parksville, Qualicum Beach, Nanoose, and surrounding areas.
The Challenge:
The old website was built many years ago on Ruby on Rails, a server-side web application framework, and was very challenging for the Oceanside team to work with and keep up-to-date. Even simple changes required assistance from a developer, which meant the site couldn’t keep up with with changes within the organization.
Oceanside Hospice wanted to add some features to their website, such as an events section and fillable form. They were also interested in cleaning up the website’s appearance, with a desire to make it more visually appealing for visitors and most importantly – donors! During a period of staff turnover, the Oceanside Hospice team decided it was the right time to tackle their website rebuild.
The Solution:
With the site structure and content remaining mostly the same, Caorda’s designers and developers were able to jump right in and create a beautiful and modern design for the homepage and inner pages using the existing content as a guide. The new site was then built using Caorda’s optimized Elementor framework. This approach allowed the work to happen faster, while also giving the Oceanside team lots of flexibility to work with the site directly after it launched.
The requested events section was built using custom posts, and fillable forms were added for volunteer applications and general inquiries. In addition, clear calls-to-action buttons prompting visitors to donate, were added to the site using embedded CanadaHelps forms.
The end product is a beautiful website that is simple, clear, and easy to navigate. With the help of a training session with a developer, the Oceanside Hospice team feels confident in their ability to easily add content and images to the site, allowing them to keep everything fresh and up to date moving forward.
