Summary

The primary function of the System Administrator position is to ensure Caorda’s data centre services are running 24/7. In addition, this position supports all technical aspects of Caorda’s day-to-day IT infrastructure, office location, and remote working staff as well as Caorda’s many clients, products, and services. This is an IT Generalist position that requires solid IT knowledge and the ability to quickly learn and troubleshoot in both Windows and Linux environments. This position reports to the IT Team Lead.

 

Core Activities

  • Windows and Linux server administration
  • Install servers and configure hardware, applications, services and storage in accordance with best practices
  • Support and maintain internal and data centre services
  • Perform daily system monitoring, including verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes; reviewing system and application logs; and verifying completion of scheduled jobs, such as backups
  • Assist with system redundancy and disaster recovery infrastructure
  • Analyze and resolve incidents in a timely manner to minimize downtime to all clients while coordinating and communicating with staff
  • Create and support Bash, Powershell and other automation scripts as needed
  • Evaluate and maintain new software releases and patches
  • Ensure security best practices are followed and respond to critical events
  • Create and maintain installation, configuration, procedure, and support documentation
  • Work collaboratively with staff and clients to gather details and support projects
  • Support staff with the web development and deployment process
  • Support staff with their use of corporate applications such as Microsoft Outlook, Exchange, Microsoft Teams, and file shares
  • Support staff with their use of corporate technology, including computers, tablets, mobile devices, peripherals, and network attached devices
  • Provide direct level 1 and 2 technical support to Caorda’s clients and products/services, escalating as needed
  • Investigate, troubleshoot and resolve client incidents and update tickets and clients appropriately
  • Participate in on call rotation as required and able to respond to monitoring notifications
  • Manage multiple tasks and projects at one time
  • Overtime as required (time in lieu)
  • Maintain and improve technical knowledge
  • Deliver exceptional customer service

Qualifications

  • Familiar with Microsoft Windows Server (2016/2019), Windows 10, and Linux servers (Centos/RedHat)
  • Familiar with web servers, including Apache and IIS
  • Understanding of various components of web infrastructure, including web servers, SSL, email, DNS
  • Understanding of networking concepts (firewalls, switches, IPv4, NAT)
  • Understanding of security best practices
  • Ability to support MySQL and MS SQL database systems
  • Experience with IT hardware
  • Experience with System Administration
  • Knowledge of Microsoft applications (Active Directory, Microsoft Exchange)
  • Knowledge of virtualization platforms (VMware, Hyper-V)
  • Knowledge of Bash and Powershell
  • Experience with configuring and troubleshooting a wide range of desktop hardware and software
  • Experience diagnosing problems, performing repairs on IT assets, and providing support for a wide range of applications
  • Advanced Troubleshooting skills
  • Strong organizational skills with an ability to balance multiple priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with an emphasis on customer service
  • Ability to focus on the details and manage time effectively
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Clear and concise writing and communication techniques and able to communicate in user-friendly language
  • Able to lift at least 50 lbs
